USA Taekwondo is pleased to offer one more Level 1 seminar for the 2010 calendar year! The Level 1 seminar is scheduled to take place at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Saturday evening, September 4th and on Sunday evening, September 5th. This Level 1 will be conducted as a two-day seminar to allow coaches to take part in all of the activities that are taking place that weekend.
“The Level 1 curriculum consists of the building blocks to start teaching our athletes a brand of Taekwondo that uniquely represents USA,” stated National Team Head Coach Juan Moreno. National Team Head Coach Jean Lopez, followed up by stating that “the information contained (in Level 1) is critical to coaches at all levels of ability and experience, as it pertains to the fundamentals of coaching Taekwondo to athletes competing at any level.”
The Level 1 seminar next month will be held in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Open to provide the ideal opportunity for Associate Coaches to advance their level of coaching certification through the USAT Coach Identification and Development Program. The seminar will be delivered over the course of two nights to allow coaches who are participating in the Rocky Mountain Open to attend the seminar.
Although the Level 1 certification is not a requirement to coach at the upcoming Rocky Mountain Open, it will be needed to coach athletes who are competing in the 14 – 17 year old or Senior World Class Black Belt divisions at the 2011 Junior Olympics and U.S. National Championships. As a result, coaches who will be in Colorado Springs next month will have the convenience of acquiring the Level 1 certification at a less busy time than at the Nationals. This is a great way for coaches to plan ahead and be prepared for their athletes.
As USAT strives to increase the quality of athletes and coaches in the country and to ensure that coaches are meeting the established standards of the CIDP, it is also important to mention that all competitions that are part of the athlete selection process for the Junior or Senior National Teams, such as team trials, will require coaches to be Level 1 certified as well.
For coaches who are currently Undefined or do not have any CIDP certifications, they will first be required to have the Associate Coach certification before they would be eligible to register for the Level 1 seminar.
Coaches can register for the Level 1 seminar through Hang-A-Star. Registration for the Level 1 seminar is a separate transaction from coach registration for the Rocky Mountain Open or the Pan American Games Team Trial.
