Sparring

All categories must be the same age, belt and weight as the USAT National Qualifiers, Junior Olympics, and U.S. National Championships.  (See Attachment A for a list of all categories)

 Athletes must compete in the age category according to the age he/she will be as of December 31, 2010. 

 Color Belts: Individuals placing in the top 4 will advance to the Junior Olympics and U.S. National Championships in Orlando, Florida.  This has been changed since last year to allow more individuals to qualify from the State Championships.

 Black Belts: Qualification for black belt competitors is a tiered system.

  • 6-13 year olds -- Individuals placing in the top 4 will advance to the Junior Olympics and U.S. National Championships in Orlando, Florida.
  • 14-17, 18-32 - Less than 400 participants in the state championships -- 1st place finisher advances.
  • Between 400- 600 participants in the state championships -- 1st & 2nd place finishers advance.
  • Over 600 participants in the state championships and the top 4 finishers will advance.

 FORMS

Color Belts: Individuals participating in a state championship with between 400 and above competitors no matter their place will advance to the Junior Olympics and U.S. National Championships in Orlando, Florida.

 6-9 year old Black Belts: Individuals participating in state championships no matter their place will advance to the Junior Olympics and U.S. National Championships in Orlando, Florida.

 Includes the following divisions:

 10-13 year old Black Belts:  Individuals participating in state championships no matter their place will advance to the Junior Olympics and U.S. National Championships in Orlando, Florida. The compulsory forms for this age group will be all Taegeuk Poomsae as well as Koryo.

 14+ year old Black Belts: 1st-3rd place finisher will advance to the Junior Olympics and U.S. National Championships in Orlando, Florida.

 If an athlete qualifies at both a State Championship and National Qualifier in the same belt and weight category, the athlete will automatically receive the National Qualifier seed.  The 2nd place (silver medalist) from the State Championship will then qualify.

 The following divisions are non-qualifying division for World Class divisions at the U.S. National Championships and Junior Olympics, but may compete at State Championships.

 The 33 & older Sparring and Color Belt Forms competition is not available at the National Qualifiers.  These divisions are Open Divisions at the Junior Olympics and U.S. National Championship only.

 These divisions and White Belts may be held at the State Championships.  All participants are still required to be athlete members of USAT.  White Belts divisions are not available at any USAT National Qualifier, Junior Olympics or U.S. National Championship.

 If a competitor wants to compete in both the Junior Olympics 14-17 Black Belt Division and the Senior Black Belt Division, he/she must compete and qualify in each division.
