Help in Rebuilding Haiti
March 11, 2010
As Team USA experienced unprecedented success at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the U.S. Olympic Committee wishes to take this opportunity to give back to those who need our support.
The devastating earthquake in Haiti laid waste to the capital city of Port-Au-Prince two months ago and also took away sport opportunities from its children and athletes.
In the spirit of the Olympic Movement, the USOC is urging NGBs, athletes and all those interested in helping us to restore hope to Haitian children through sports programs and a rebuilding of its sports infrastructure.
Haiti had only one gymnasium in Port-Au-Prince for use by its elite athletes and public. This structure was completely ruined by the disaster. The USOC is helping to raise funds to rebuild this gym, as well as a nearby school where the Haitian Olympic Committee ran summer programs for disadvantaged children.
USA Taekwondo club affiliates and athletes can help by donating funds to the Sport for Haiti section of the Teamusa.org website at the following link: http://support.teamusa.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Sport_for_Haiti&JServSessionIdr004=ngtaau0vs3.app331a
