USA Taekwondo (USAT) is pleased to announce the launch of a National Sport Poomsae Program.

"This is an exciting development and opportunity for USAT to develop world class poomsae athletes from the grass root level", said USAT CEO Mr. David Askinas. "Our goal is to evolve Team USA into one of the leading poomsae teams in the world and be a competitive force at the international level. The establishment of this National Sport Poomsae Program evidences USA Taekwondo’s firm commitment to poomsae as an integral part of our organization.”

In launching the program Mr. Askinas announced the appointment of Master Jimmy Kim (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) as program director and head coach. Master Kim, the 1988 U.S. Olympic gold medalist, served as head coach for the 2009 U.S. National Poomsae Team at the 4th WTF Poomsae Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

"This program will be a collaborative and coordinated effort that will tap into the nationwide resources and contributions of masters, coaches, current and former National Team members and U.S. international referees to develop and support world class sport poomsae athletes for Team USA", said Master Kim. "Our priority will be to establish and propagate a common standard amongst all USAT members and athletes at the grass root level that will help U.S. poomsae athletes develop and effectively compete at the international level."

To assist with administrative and coordination support, Mrs. Aline Salzberg (Chatsworth, Calif.) has been appointed as program and team manager. Mrs. Salzberg is a 2008 U.S. National Poomsae Team member and served Team USA as team manager at the 2009 WTF Poomsae Championships.

The National Sport Poomsae Program will facilitate year-round workshops, seminars and training camps for athletes and coaches. Further information and schedules will be announced shortly and listed on www.usa‐taekwondo.us.
