In addition to vying for the title of “national champion” in their respective weight divisions, the 14-17 year-old junior sparring athletes will also be competing for spots on the 2010 Junior National Team. The winner in each of the 20 weight classes (10 men and 10 women) will be named to the Junior National Team. The Junior Olympic Championships, held June 29-July 2, features Olympic-type sparring competition in both the Grass Root Division and the World Class Division, as well as competition in forms, weapons and board breaking.
The Senior National Championships (July 3-4) includes forms, sparring, weapons and board breaking events for athletes 14 years of age and older. The top black belt finishers in the sparring competition will advance to future competitions and have a chance to qualify for the 2010 Senior National Team, 2010 Pan Am Championships Team, 2011 Pan Am Games Team and the 2012 Olympic Team. On Saturday, July 3, there will also be the team trials for the 2010 U.S. National Poomsae Team.
